Common Family Health Problems

Family health problems can cover a multitude of common complaints and ailments. This article is not meant to replace medical advice, and you should always seek medical advice if you are concerned about the health of your child or another family member.

Here are 10 common family health problems and ways they can be resolved.

1. Colds, coughs and runny noses will often get better by themselves in a matter of days.  Some people prefer to treat colds with painkillers and cough medicine, whilst others don't.  Some people will prefer to take time off work, or school, whereas others will soldier on.  There isn't really a right way to fight colds.

2. Headaches can be caused by a number of things, such as stress, hunger, a bang on the head, or even needing to wear glasses.  By finding out why your child has a headache, you can help to get rid of the headache.  Perhaps a dose of painkillers is all that's needed, or maybe your child will need a trip to the opticians if the headaches occur regularly, or whilst reading or watching TV.

3. Tummy aches can be caused by hunger or too much food, as well as for other reasons.  You will want to find out what your child has eaten to establish the cause of the tummy ache.

4. Sometimes children will feign an illness or condition in order to try and get a day off school.  After a while you will be able to tell when your child is genuinely ill, and when they haven't revised for a maths test.

5. Cuts and scrapes will need to be cleaned and dressed, but unless they are serious, they probably won't require medial attention at a hospital.  By keeping a well stocked first aid kit, you will be prepared for most eventualities.

6. Schools are a breeding ground for viruses and other diseases.  It's likely that if there is an illness going round school, then your child will probably be at risk of catching it.  Depending on what the condition is, other family members may be at risk too.  You might need to make sure that you have the right items to treat the illness, such as camomile lotion for chicken pox, or anti-nit shampoo.

7. Sometimes your child may be generally unwell, and you might not know what's wrong with them.  If the symptoms don't appear, and your child doesn't get better in a couple of days, than you may want to seek professional medical advice.

8. Broken bones such as from falling out of trees or from sporting injuries are common in children, and will normally heal properly with the right medical treatment.

9. If your child needs an operation, or to spend time in hospital, it can be a very traumatic time for all concerned.  You might need to reassure your child, or be reassured yourself.  You might want to learn more about the procedure, how long it will be before your child is up and about again, and any other useful information to help answer you child's questions.

10. If your child has symptoms of an illness, or looks unwell, or is clearly in agony, then you might want to seek medical attention straight away.  Even it there's nothing much wrong with your child, it's much better to be safe than sorry.

Now you know more about some for the common family health problems, the next time your child has a cold, or a tummy ache, you will be better prepared, and know when you can treat it yourself, and when to seek medical advice.

Law of Attraction Means Visualizing a Healthy Family Vacation and Holiday

If you have ever experienced a vacation, whereby one of the members of the family was ill, you will probably know that it spoiled the vacation for the whole family.

It is not fun to have plans to spend a day at the amusement park, only to have one family member feeling nauseous or running a fever and having to stay behind.

Or worse yet, trying to tough it out and going anyway, only to have to leave early, due to needing to return to bed.

What are some of the steps you can take to insure a fun and healthy vacation?

There is really only ONE step necessary and that is to visualize everyone being healthy.

It has been scientifically proven that what we think about...comes about.

(You can do a search on google.com or yahoo.com on the phrase "quantum physics" and you will see the studies that have been done proving that we are all made of energy.)

Our energy molecules are influenced by what we think about.

Whether we think about what we "Want" or whether we think about what we "Don't Want" - wherever our focus is...that is what we experience.

Very briefly, if we focus on illness (or the yucky "not wanting" of illness), we will have an experience of illness (because of the energetic focus on the yuckiness of it).

If we focus on health (and having that), we will experience health.

So, do whatever necessary to put out of your mind the ruined vacation(s) of the past, due to illness and think only of how great and fun your vacation will be, as a result of all of the family members being healthy and vibrant, and that is exactly what you will have as an experience.

PS Make sure you take lots of film. You'll need it!

Tips For a Healthy Family

Well, how can you be sure you have a healthy family? How do you know if you have provided enough for your family to ensure good health and safety all the time? You may be having doubts at times as to whether or not you are secure enough in keeping a healthy family.

In today's busy society and struggling economy, we rarely see our family members everyday at home as we may have different schedules and concerns. You are lucky enough if you can have dinner together as a family for twice or thrice a week. But you could actually change things slowly and get them adapt to it and rather love it in different ways.

Set a rule about fast foods. A healthy family must never dwell on eating fast food as you can actually have a healthy meal at home and enjoy quality time together with the whole family. Let them get started by designing a weekly plan of cooking together. Assign each one a task in the kitchen on a particular day and let each one enjoy what he/she is doing by asking about each other's concerns and let the conversation flow spontaneously through dinner. You may not be able to do this daily but you can actually design this plan to make it work even bi-weekly to ensure they are not only eating healthy meals but also keeping up a healthy family relationship.

Develop the interest of engaging into an independent hobby. Each member must have its own and start by showing them a hobby that is fruitful for the whole family like sewing or painting for healthy family interactions.

Live green. Talk to your family about the importance of caring for the environment to live healthy. Show them how to recycle household materials not only to save money but to ensure a healthy family life.

Engage in exercise plans for the whole family to enjoy or any other activity that will let the whole family do things together to promote fitness for your family's health.

You also need to teach your kids the importance of self-defense. You can enroll them in classes of this kind so they may be aware and ready in cases where they may encounter a suspicious stranger and other bad guys. A healthy family is a secure family so remind them about not giving their trust fully to other people other than family members.

These top tips for great activities require greater flexibility and motherly talent to get everyone participate and perform well in all your activities for a healthy family life. Just be reminded always that a healthy family is a family that shares time together through good and tough times so set a day to let each one speak out whenever you feel resistance in each of your planned activities and rules so you can balance everything well for a happy and a totally healthy family.

Keep Your Family Healthy and Safe With Radon Testing

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it is estimated that radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year. This number is far greater than the number of deaths caused by drunk driving or fire incidents. This information was taken from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2005-2006 National Center for Injury Prevention and Control Report and 2006 National Safety Council Reports. Because of the seriousness and alarming numbers, the government is encouraging everyone to keep your family healthy and safe by conducting radon testing for your home.

What is radon?

Radon is a "silent killing" odorless, colorless and tasteless radioactive gas coming from the breakdown of uranium found under the soil and rocks of your home. Radon can be present in the air that you breathe and the water that you drink. If you are someone who smokes and you have a high level of radon in your home, your risk of developing lung cancer is extremely high.

How healthy and safe is it inside your home?

If you haven't checked your home for radon, the best time to do it is now. Today, there are different ways to check for radon in your home. You can do it yourself with radon test kits that are fairly inexpensive and easy to follow. But, if you are buying a home, you might find it useful and wise to combine the services from your local home inspector. A local home inspector that is certified in radon testing can perform your property inspection and add on the service of radon testing. It will save you money when combining services and you'll have expert knowledge from a certified inspector.

What If There Are High Concentrations Of Radon In My House?

It's quite simple. If you find out that you have high levels of radon in your home, you should do something about it. You can protect yourself from radon if you know how it gets into your home. As the radon is escaping from the soil and rocks, it is trying to disperse into the atmosphere. Normally, radon doesn't affect us when it is combined with a vast atmosphere of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. However, when radon gas is trapped or enclosed, it becomes concentrated and dangerous to the human body. So, if radon gas is escaping from the rocks and soil into your home, it still hasn't escaped into a safe atmosphere. Therefore, you can prevent radon from getting into your breathing air by installing a vent pipe and extracting the radon gas away from your home. This is known as the sub-slab depressurization. Just so you know, no, you cannot seal your home well enough so that radon doesn't leak in. According to the EPA, it's not effective in preventing radon gas from getting into your home.

Radon has been discovered in areas that have a high levels of granite concentration. But, it has also been found in locations without much granite. Therefore, it's important to be cautious and approach radon testing on a case-by-case examination. You really can't predict where high levels of radon could be lurking. So, protect your family's health and ensure your home doesn't become the place where radon gas gets trapped as it is trying to escape from the rocks and soil beneath.

Feed Your Family With Delicious and Healthy Meals in Less Time

It falls to me, as the work-at-home parent, to have dinner on the table most weeknights. While I enjoy cooking, it quickly becomes a dreaded chore when I feel the pressure to have something healthy and satisfying prepared every evening. Honestly, if it weren't for the family, I'd eat oatmeal and soup half the time, but alas, I can only get away with this on certain occasions. My challenge every day is to find a way to feed my family nutritious foods that don't require a ton of thought and prep time. Where to start? Organization is the key.

How to Get Organized

I have learned that a super-stocked fridge and pantry can be overwhelming. Food items get pushed to the back of the fridge and are forgotten, and I feel guilty when they go to waste. A clean and orderly fridge filled with everyday essentials brings me clarity and peace of mind.

De-clutter your pantry and refrigerator to help you find ingredients quickly. Stock with your family's favourite go-to items.
Throw away all old jars of expired sauces and condiments.
Stock your freezer with frozen items such as vegetables, fruit, fish and meat. This allows you to prepare healthy meals even if you don't have fresh produce and meat on hand.
Wash fresh fruit and veggies before you put them away. You are more apt to throw fresh kale into your pasta if it's ready to add in a flash.
Always have canned beans, soups and dried noodles in your pantry. A stir-fry or meatless pasta can be whipped up in no time for days when you are flat out of time.

Plan meals for the week ahead and use whatever helps you do things more effortlessly.

Get the latest meal planning app with customized grocery lists and recipes. I also make my own list by dictating items into a list I've saved in my notes on my iPhone.
I often plug specific keywords for ingredients into Google when I have a particular dish in mind. Many recipe websites offer this feature as well.
Buy a couple of everyday recipe cookbooks to give you inspiration. Even if you detest going by the book, use them as a rough guideline or source of motivation to try new things.

Stick to tried and true methods.

Make a double batch of whole grain pancakes or waffles on the weekend and freeze half to pop in the toaster on school mornings or for snacks.
Break out the crock pot! There are so many quick and nutritious soup, chilli and casserole dishes that can simmer all day and be ready for when you walk in the door.
Double duty dinners are the way to go. Leftovers from a roast beef or baked ham can be repurposed for lunch sandwiches or a casserole the next night.

It's not hard to come up with healthy and mouth-watering meals in less time. When you find yourself in a rut, look to cookbooks, online blogs and friends for new ideas. You simply need wholesome ingredients on hand and inspiration on your side.
